Jim Marr's 1961 Dodge Polara 5000 is our feature car for November 2008.
Jim sent us this article on his fine automobile:

It was built at the Jefferson Assembly Plant, July 21st and delivered to Dave Schnek Dodge Ltd. Whittier CA.
The '61 Polara, which featured "Buck Rogers" style tail lights was the creation of Cliff Voss, in Virgil Exner's absence. The bizzare and controversial "reverse sweep" fins failed to attract new buyers to Dodge showrooms. Sales slipped from sixth place in 1960 to ninth place in 1961. 14032 Polaras were produced in '61. 7500 were four door sedans.Built on a 122 inch wheelbase, the Polara was designated a 'C' body and featured unibody construction with Torsion Bar front suspension, weighing in at 3760 lbs. with an overall length of 217 inches. Base price $2766.00.

Ram Induction was an option in the '60 and '61 Dodge and Plymouth line (US only) and standard equipment in the Chrysler 300 F,G,J and K. Engineered to produce a resonance-ram effect in the 30 inch intake runners , resulting in remarkable mid-range torque and acceleration. The 500 insignia denoted Dodge's high performance package.
The Polara was not offered for sale in Canada in 1961. This car "may' be the only example north of the 49th. I'd like to hear from you mopar affectionado's on this.

I just purchased a 1987 Shelby Charger GLHS #208 last winter. There were only 1000 made in 1987 and mine is number 0208.

The car still wears it's original paint and still has a nice shine to it. There are a few chips, a couple of faded spots and one small ding on the car. The interior is in perfect condition with no rips or tears. The bottom of this car looks like it just came from the assembly line... all the original primer is there along with a few markings from assembly.

The car originally came from Franklin, Tennessee and I have all the original books, original window sticker, the keyfob from the assembly plant in Michigan, the key tag from the dealer lot and even a copy of the cashiers check from the original purchaser. Everything on this car works including the A/C.
Now on to the modifications that have been done:

On the Dyno this set-up made 305 HP to the wheels at 20psi on pump gas with over 280 tq.

Not much was changed for the popular Charger in 1969 .
Exterior changes included a new grille with a center divider and new longitudinal taillights both designed by Harvey J. Winn.
A new trim line called the Special Edition (SE) was added. This could be available by itself or packaged with the R/T, thus making an R/T-SE.
The SE added leather inserts to the front seats only, chrome rocker moldings, a wood grain steering wheel and wood grain inserts on the instrument panel.

A sunroof was added to the option list as well, and it would prove to be a very rare option (some 260 sold).
The bumble bee stripes returned as well, but were changed slightly. Instead of four stripes it now featured one huge stripe framed by two smaller stripes.
In the middle of the stripe an R/T cutout was placed. If the stripe was deleted, then a metal R/T emblem was placed where the R/T cutout was.

Barrie Campbell, a member from Dominion Nova Scotia is the proud owner of this fine 1947 Dodge Desoto Convertible.
The DeSoto is a six-seater, two-door sedan with electric roof, original push button radio and an airflow heater.
The side-valve six-cylinder "flat head" motor was used extensively by Chrysler for years, featuring a "simplimatic" fluid-drive semi-auto gearbox.
This apparently easy-to-use gearbox was evidently used as a marketing ploy for prospective lady purchasers, promising gear changes without the use of a clutch. Which wasn't quite true in practice.
The DeSoto was produced at a time when American manufacturers were able to capture a sense of style.
The interior finish is simple and subtle with delicate features on steering controls and door handles.

Even the exterior curves appear softly swept, well proportioned and stylish for such a large car.
With an electric roof that operates in about 15 seconds, the DeSoto transforms from sedan to convertible faster than many modern-day cars

Bryan from Dartmouth is our newest member and owns both a 1973 Dodge Dart Sport and this Dream Series 3 PT Cruiser. Some info on this slick little cruiser is included below. We will feature his Dart Sport in the near future.
Just in time for Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise, the latest offering in the limited-production series of Chrysler PT Cruisers includes a standard 220-horsepower High Output turbo engine, unique Midnight Blue and Bright Silver two-tone paint scheme and blue-tinted glass, the latter of which are both firsts in the PT Cruiser lineup.
"With the increased horsepower from turbocharging the engine and the 245 lb.-ft. of torque at the most useable portion of the power band, this addition to the Dream Cruiser Series is certainly no 'sleeper,'"said Larry Lyons, Vice President-Small Vehicle Product Team Engineering. "It offers both 'show and go,' with the highest level of performance in our range of PT Cruiser engines, which includes a new180-horsepower turbo option for the very first time in 2004."

Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) for all Chrysler Dream Cruiser Series 3 vehicles will be reserved in a continuous sequenced block to enhance their collectibility.
Together, the High Output turbo engine and the special Dream Cruiser Series 3 styling cues make this, the eighth addition to the overall PT Cruiser lineup, truly a unique offering from the Chrysler brand.
"With this new version, we're giving PT Cruiser owners another limited-production Dream Cruiser vehicle, already customized with the most exclusive options available on any 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser," said Tom Marinelli, Vice President-Chrysler Marketing.

Trevor, one of our multi-car members is the proud owner of this 1974 Plymouth Duster 360. The Duster was originally slant 6 powered. Trevor has made many uogrades and modifications to this car. It now features a 360 ci engine coupled with a 4 speed transmission.

According to Trevor he has made too many upgrades to list. All parts were Mopar Performance parts. The obvious exterior mods include the performance hood, custom paint and stripe pakage. It also has extended steel rims with chrome rings and center caps.

Sandy, a member from Dartmouth NS, is at it again. Already a multicar owner, Sandy decided to pick this Chrysler 300 that caught his eye at Blaikies in Truro late December. Sandy has included a quick note to go along with the pics. Thanks Sandy! and Congrats on the new 300.

I picked this thing up dec.28 ...had to take a bus to Blakies in Truro. The Chrysler deal for air Canada employees expired on Jan.3rd so the deal had to be done before the new year. Got a heck of deal on it. The extra bonus incentives went away and this car went way up in Jan.!

I could have gotten a deal on new 4dr ram but that would have just ticked my better half off.( maybe a fellow can have too many trucks?) She claimed this 300 as HER'S as soon as I arrived home that day.

We put the first tank of gas through it and it's surprisingly good on gas!

Not a HEMI but who needs the power for a daily driver anyway. Sure feels nice to have something with new car smell in it again.
